Britney Spears hit the stage May 1, with what was believed to be her first public performance in nearly three years.

Wearing a short skirt, go-go boots, a pink top, and a brown wig, the 25-year-old mother of two raced through her greatest hits at the House Of Blues in San Diego, California.

The set lasted less than 15 minutes, reportedly irritating some concertgoers who paid upwards of $125 per ticket. Mounting the concert under heavy security, the club advertised the headliners as "The M & Ms."

Attendees didn't know Britney Spears was performing until an hour after the doors opened. Rumors of a Spears show had spread via the Internet and local radio stations.

The House Of Blues web site advertised two more Southern California concerts by "The M & Ms": one in Anaheim on May 2, and the other in West Hollywood on May 3.

There will come a time when you have to consider replacing the strings on your first guitar, the question is when? That will depend on a number of factors, how often you play, how long you play for, your playing style and how well you look after your strings. A general rule of thumb is to replace the strings after 20-30 hours of play.

Why do I have to change the strings?

When you play, the oil in the skin at the ends of your fingers is transferred to the strings. This will further attract dirt which will collect on the strings. This will cause the strings to deaden and vibrate unevenly along their length. The sweat from your fingers will also cause the strings to corrode and you will notice this with a discolouration of the string over a period of time. The dirt will eventually find its way to the core of the string causing it to corrode and weaken. A good tip to prolong the life of the strings is to wipe them after playing.

What type of strings should I buy?

You should always replace strings with those designed to be used with the type of guitar you have. If you have a steel string guitar do not be tempted to re string it with nylon strings to overcome the effects of sore fingers for example. There are a number of reasons why a steel string guitar is not suitable for nylon strings. Without going into great detail these are - the nut slots will be too narrow for nylon strings and the saddle angle.
Even more risky is stringing a classical guitar with steel strings (although some classical guitar strings have steel wound nylon strings for the three lower E, A and D strings). Nylon strings are under less tension than steel string so the guitar construction takes this into account. The facing and internal braces are weaker and you might even pull the bridge off. Also, the neck of most nylon string guitars won’t have an internal reinforcement, a truss rod, to keep the neck straight. Without this the neck will bend causing the action (height of the strings above the fingerboard) to change and make playing very difficult.

What are strings made from?

There are three common types of steel acoustic guitar strings

Bronze Wound - These are the most common type and have a bright sound when brand new which fades quickly with time.

Phosphor Bronze Wound - Is a bronze and phosphor alloy which is used to give the string a warmer sound and extended tonal life.

Silk & Steel - The wound strings have a thin steel core which is surrounded by nylon filaments and then wrapped in silver plated brass windings. This type of string gives a much softer sound and is less durable than other types of string. The strings are under less tension which makes it easier to depress them.

Thick or Thin?

Using thicker or thinner strings allows you to change the tone and playability. A thicker, larger gauge, string requires greater tension which means the string will require more pressure to depress but will vibrate less. Less vibration allows you to reduce the action i.e. move the strings closer to the fingerboard. Thinner, lighter gauge, strings have the opposite effect. If you change the thickness of the strings on your guitar you may have to have it adjusted so that the action remains the same.

Finally, strings are a personal choice. Only by trying different makes and gauges will you fully experience each of the effects discussed above and be able to make a more measured decision.

That has been the lone consistent characteristic of her output, and it remains in effect throughout The Dutchess.The album has all the characteristics of a release fronted by someone who has been itching to go solo and prove herself, once and for all, as a versatile force all her own. Fergie does cartwheels and handstands, juggles three objects at once, balances books on her head, hangs upside down, rides a unicycle with her hands in the air -- all these things while wearing different outfits. The whole process, produced mostly by fellow Pea will.i.am, is mildly entertaining. There's throwback hip-hop ("Fergalicious," done to the tune of J.J. Fad's "Supersonic"), throwback soul ("Here I Come," done to the tune of the Temptations' "Get Ready"), reggae ("Mary Jane Shoes"), ska-punk ("Mary Jane Shoes"), scat ("Mary Jane Shoes"), vaguely torchy midtempo fluff ("Velvet"), and a classy string-drenched ballad (the appropriately titled "Finally"), among several other passable switch-ups, along with "London Bridge" -- which is terrific, provided you can block out the lyrics or prevent yourself from trying to decipher its meaning. One of the more convincing songs on the album, "Big Girls Don't Cry," sounds exactly like a 2006 version of Wild Orchid, with Fergie's Taylor Dayne kid-sister act in full effect. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Not only did Thomas rack up a string of hits with the Florida group, but he also co-penned "Smooth" from Santana's Grammy-winning 1999 comeback album, SUPERNATURAL. With SOMETHING TO BE, his solo debut, Thomas pulls out all the stylistic stops, revealing that Matchbox Twenty's alternative-rock format provided a somewhat limited forum for his considerable talents. "Lonely No More" mixes an insistent dance beat with an insanely catchy chorus that sounds straight out of the boy-band textbook. The title track is a sly lyrical dig at poseurs of all stripes, backed by an 1980s electro-funk groove, while the burbling synths and Eastern percussion of "All That I Am" recall the world fusion experiments of Peter Gabriel and David Byrne. An ambitious effort by a guy who knows his way around a hit single, SOMETHING TO BE is the sound of an artist breaking out.

The band's sound, which draws from both traditional heavy metal and hard-hitting grunge-era acts like Alice in Chains, has remained largely consistent since their 1997 debut, and IV continues that pattern. Crunching distortion, snaky riffs, and thunderous rhythms make up the bulk of the sound, while Sully Erna's gruff, sometimes drone-oriented singing (which certainly owes a debt to Alice in Chains' Layne Staley) creates an evocative counter-balance. But while IV may not overflow with musical reinvention, it boasts the strongest batch of songs the band has written since their debut. The album's lead-off single, "Speak," is a case in point, as are the songs "Shine Down," with its bluesy intro, and the powerhouse "Temptation."

Chad Kroeger put together a collection of original songs, borrowed money from his stepfather, and went to Vancouver to record the band in a friend's studio. Based on the results, Kroeger's guitarist brother, Mike, and pal bassist Ryan Vikedal all relocated to Vancouver in 1996; that same year, they recorded and released the EP Hesher and full-length Curb independently, then embarked on a series of cross-country tours.

In late 1998, the bandmembers started managing themselves, with Chad handling all the radio tracking, brother Mike Kroeger the distribution, and Ryan Vikedal all the bookings. A second LP, The State, was released independently in January 2000 during a period when Canadian content requirements were increased and local rock radio began desperately seeking out homegrown product. What they found was Nickelback's single "Leader of Men." The band toured ceaselessly for The State and 200 shows later, Nickelback had gone from virtual unknowns to playing in front of over a million people alongside the likes of Creed, 3 Doors Down, Fuel, and more.
